Easy Tips to Complete your Costume
What Accessories Can You Add To Make A Costume Complete
There are a number of excellent costumes for sale this Halloween. When you purchase a costume that grabs your attention, you literally step into the shoes of a pirate, vampire, pop culture icon, cowboy, and scores of other mythical characters. Or do you? That is, do you really step into the shoes of such characters? Because most costumes do not come with shoes! Costume sets are mainly pants, shirts, and masks. Shoes would be considered an accessory and that means you may need to purchase them separately. Actually, in some instances, it is highly advisable to purchase these accessories. Really, would you look good in a cowboy costume if you wore sneakers? So, let’s take a look at the common, popular Halloween accessories that can help round out a costume and make it even more appealing.
Wigs
Your personal haircut or style may look good on you but it might not be appropriate for certain costume characters. For example, pirates are known for their long, black flowing hair. Clowns generally come with bright colored and loud hair styles. Frankenstein’s haircut is non-assuming but the top of his head is completely flat! Yes, wigs can make the costume and there are score of costume wigs available for your choosing.
Hats and crowns
Consider these a close cousin to wigs. Some costumes automatically come with hats while most do not. Generally, a hat can help improve pretty much every costume provided the right hat is selected. That’s why the inclusion of certain prop hats can certainly complement any costume you may have selected.
Beards. Yes, you can really change the look of a costume by adding a (fake) beard to it! In some instances, a “generic” costume can truly become original once a beard is added to the equation. It is a shame beard props are sometimes overlooked because they add a completely new dimension and sense of style to a costume.
Gloves
By gloves, we really mean any type of gear or prop that the hands can be placed in. The “gloves” for The Creature from the Black Lagoon’s gloves are actually the long oversized webbed claws that are the Gillman’s trademark. Many different costumes will need gloved props to make them complete. Thankfully, the inventory for these items is rather vast.
Weapons
Pirates, gladiators, soldiers, and some comic book heroes need weapons such as prop knives, guns, and swords in order to make their costume complete. The sheer variety of weapons available is stunning. Some are even quite realistic such as the high end theatrical prop weapons that some specialty dealers offer. Of course, the less expensive ones are impressive as well.
Makeup
Sometimes, adding eyeliner or facial coloring grease can bring new life to a traditional costume. Makeup and greasepaint have been staples of costuming for centuries. Why not continue the tradition by considering these accessories? Often, makeup appliances can be purchased at very low cost which opens doors for ideas for those that may be on a very limited budget.
Blood and gore props
Scars, fake blood, and the occasional severed limb can make some monster and mayhem costumes look complete. These accessories are not for everyone….but you know who you are.
This is just a very brief, general overview of the various accessories that are available for Halloween costumes. When it comes to adding accessories to a Halloween costume to make it unique, you are only limited by your own imagination.
